It's becoming more and more clear that those among the right-wing in the United States are rivaling the Nazis of 1930s Germany when it comes to verbal violence. And actual violence is not that far behind.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was the the recipient of death threats which were put in her voicemail. The latest one was played by Omar during a press briefing. It revealed the rhetoric of a psychotic whose hatred for Muslims was quite evident. He may have been a neo-Nazi or something along those lines.
The voicemail, slightly garbled, is ladened with epithets. This is a partial quote:
"We see you, you Muslim sand n______ bitch. Don't worry, there are plenty who would love the opportunity to take you off the face of this fucking earth. You will not live much longer bitch, I can almost guarantee you that."
(FYI, I will point out that the "n" word's original meaning is someone who greedy or miserly. So this word can be used on someone like Trump.)
This poor excuse for a human being was probably influenced by the rhetoric of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), who used the term "jihad squad" and likened Omar to a terrorist carrying a bomb to blow up the Capitol. The behavior of Boebert and those like her has obviously gone too far and represents the biggest threat to the degree of democracy in the United States. These individuals are callous in their remarks, showing little or no empathy for those who act, speak and believe differently from them. It is a combination of arrogance and ignorance, with Boebert and her ilk proving that they are cheap shot artists.
Omar understandably responded in regards to the voicemail and Boebert's remarks. She called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the minority leader Kevin McCarthy, himself a Republican, to take action to discipline Boebert (and she needs it, deservedly so). Omar made the following statement: "It is time for the Republican Party to actually do something to confront anti-Muslim hatred in its ranks and hold those who perpetuate it accountable." But the odds are probably against this, with McCarthy refusing to do anything. He doesn't want to upset those in the Republican base who are like the source in the voicemail.
Boebert gave an apology to the Muslim community but not to Omar. It was a hollow gesture given Boebert's Islamophobia. Showing contempt for Omar and the Muslim community, Boebert, in true ultra-nationalist form, said she would "fearlessly continue to put America first, never sympathising with terrorists." But given Boebert's attitude and the voicemail, I have to ask who are the real terrorists here. It sure is not IIhan Omar.
There are those on the right in the United States who continue to show their true colors and will go as far as being on the same gutter level with Nazi Germany.
